Reality allows suggestion of unreality. The ritual, process and production of illustration allows for representation of reality, and the means to take it beyond itself.
There is a sense of a destruction of reality, a ritual extermination, in the physical practice of putting pencil to paper, where the physical reality of the world is defined by a mark.
